Hawaii State Inspection

As part of our inspection, a certified inspector will carefully check the following components to ensure they meet Hawaii safety inspection standards:

• Tires and wheel alignment

• Lamps and reflectors
   
• Horns
   
• Glazing materials
   
• Body and interior components
   
• Exhaust systems
   
• Intake and fuel systems
   
• Speedometer and odometer
   
• Drivetrain

Be sure to have valid license plates (not damaged or illegible) at the time of your inspection and to bring with you your Hawaii no-fault insurance card and a valid vehicle registration card. If you have a reconstructed vehicle, you should also bring a bill of sale or receipt for any parts that have been added.

If your vehicle passes the safety inspection, we’ll affix a sticker to your vehicle and give you hard-copy inspection certificates.

We’ll also update your safety inspection information in the Hawaii motor vehicle database available for DMV staff to search. (This may take up to four months to be entered into the system.)

If we find defects within your vehicle, you will need to have repairs made and have it inspected again. We’ll provide you with a list of defects that need to be fixed and discuss any services we recommend, along with their costs, so you can determine how best to proceed.
